Dentistry Year-in-Review: Dental Floss

Posted .

We wish your holiday season to be merry for the rest of this year and many years beyond. We hope at the end of the year, you take the time to establish an oral health care checklist to ensure you are adequately cleaning your teeth as necessary each day. Don’t forget to monitor your daily flossing techniques to determine if there’s anything you can do to enhance your dental cleaning skills.

When using threaded floss, make sure each strand is long enough during use to wrap around a finger on each hand and travel up and down the strand as necessary during the treatment. Ideally, flossing sessions should take between 2 to 3 minutes and scrub between every one of your teeth and the teeth in the back. Once your session is complete, throw away the strand and use a new one for each subsequent procedure.

Not all dental floss products are created the same. Be sure to exercise caution when deciding which product is right for you. For product recommendations, consult with your dentist. Furthermore, always look for floss that is shred-resistant and will not shred upon use. As an alternative to threaded floss, water flossers are also a great choice.
